I love the orange guy. Wanted to see how this movie turned out.
This movie really doesn't have anything to do with Garfield. I'm all in favor of reinterpreting and reinventing characters within new iterations, but at least make them plot relevant. Garfield is just along for the ride most of the time, and he only does something important towards the very end. Makes you wonder why this is even a Garfield movie to begin with.
There was one funny joke, though. When Garfield is trying to get on the train, Vic launches him using a tree branch. He bounces around all parts of the scenery, and somehow he bounces off of a Garfield balloon from the Macy's Thanksgiving parade. I wasn't expecting it. That was the only funny joke.
Chris Pratt's voice does not fit Garfield at all. Garfield doesn't sound how he looks. Frank Welker does a good voice; so does Bill Murray. They should've gotten one of them.
I think Maddie was talking about it recently? So my brother decided to throw it on.
A review of The Truman Show (1998) dir. Peter Weir.
I'm not sure how to interpret the movie. It's described as a psychological comedy on Wikipedia and Peacock. But I don't think I ever laughed. I would agree that it's a psychological drama, but a comedy? I don't recall laughing at all. I've never liked Jim Carrey's comedy. He's the second richest Nostalgia Critic type character, after Will Ferrell, and I never got the appeal.
It's pretty interesting, though. I like the worldbuilding, and I think the characters fit very well. The foreshadowing is sharp, and I feel like I would get a lot out of a second watch through.
Most importantly, the score is amazing. The songs are catchy and weighty, fitting every scene perfectly. I love how intense the movie feels, propelled along by the score.
This article was written as the script for the next Icystorm 9 video.
I’m Icystorm 9. I’m 17, I live in the Japanese state of Nebraska,
and I live without a mouth. I play video games and listen to pop
music. And I’m a character. I’m scripted and voiced by an adult
living in Nebraska, United States, NOT Japan, and my character is
just a vague representation of my own person.
My channel began
dedicated to complaining about Minecraft. I quickly ran out of things
to complain about, so it became Icystorm9Reviews in 2015. But I
didn’t know what types of videos I wanted to make. That was, until
I got sick in 2017. I was struck with a terrible condition that left
me bedridden for about a month. In that time, I watched a lot of
YouTube channels that inspired me. The most important one is Project
COE. I liked other long-form review channels, like LambHoot,
SomeCallMeJohnny, Todd In The Shadows, and TheDoubleAgent, but they
weren’t making the type of videos I thought were in short supply. I
wasn’t hungry for more of this. But I found Project COE’s
Saturnday reviews addicting. They were short and to the point. They
gave a brief overview of the game of the week with gameplay to
discuss their main points. And they were talking about something that
wasn’t super common to talk about: relatively obscure 90s video
games. It was a true review. Not in the sense that the episode would
go over everything about the game early. But in the sense that you
would know after a few minutes whether it was something you’d find
worth your time and money, or if it wouldn’t. It was so easy to
watch the whole playlist in just a few sittings, or at least wish I
could. It brought me a lot of comfort in the days where I couldn’t
really walk or stand or breathe. I wanted to make videos that gave
that same feeling.
Ever since I started
in 2019, the videos got more and more complex to edit. I learned a
new editing trick in each video. Things moved around more. Now, going
back to the Life of Pablo video, I find it crazy how little happens.
Things sit still for more than 3 seconds, which is unthinkable in a
modern Icystorm 9 video. But the problem is that this took a lot of
time. I remember making the Glowing Man video in a few hours, after I
got home from school, but before a 7pm Wednesday night lenten
service. For comparison, the Hurley video took upwards of ten hours
just to edit 100 seconds of footage. The Hurley video is no doubt
better than the Glowing Man video, but I don’t think it was thrice
as good. I was putting in a crazy amount of hours for little output.
I’ve written a
fair bit on my website in the interim. I’ve reviewed a dozen or
more movies, reviewed dozens more albums, and discussed more personal
subjects that mean a lot to me. But writing is not my passion.
Writing isn’t something I can sit and do for hours on end without
taking a break. It’s the video making that propels me to do it. The
reason ten hour video editing sessions are bad for me is because I
like doing them. They’re really bad for my physical health. And my
emotional health as well, according to my psychiatrist.
I’m looking for
ways to make videos that don’t take so much time. I want to make
the videos that require ten hours of editing, without taking ten
hours to make them. I’m not sure how that will play out or look
like yet. But soonr than soon, I will be uploading more good stuff.
Ally and Pailey wanted to see it. And I did too. A review of Wicked (2024) starring Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo.
Not the movie's fault, but. In my theater, I was distracted by a thin brown stain on the screen, bottom center. It looked like projectile vomit, and apparently I'm the only one of my friends who noticed it. I'm not even mad; whenever Ethan Slater was on screen, I too was resisting the urge to projectile vomit.
When the Wizard was reading the Didache Grimmerie, he just said, "Omaha, Omaha." I was hoping he would keep reading and say "Seward." But he never did.
I had a hard time looking through the actresses to see the characters. Cynthia Erivo was convincing, but Ariana Grande is just Ariana Grande. Jeff Goldblum is just Jeff Goldblum. Ethan Slater was a gross nasty man.
Wicked being a "Part One" movie, I think, just gives them good enough excuse to not wrap up plot details. The ending felt like a true ending. It's just when you remember the earlier parts in the movie that it feels incomplete. Ethan Slater's relationship with Nessa never resolves. Fiyero's feelings toward Elphaba and Glinda are hinted at, so the audience can guess where those relationships are going, but we never see it. We never return to Glinda in Munchkinland after the first 10 minutes, which the whole framing of the movie would require. I get that the movie is already long, but is there a reason it has to be this way? I never saw the play.
The songs are great, except "Popular." I was impressed by Cynthia's and especially Ari's vocals, which is crazy because I've been a fan of Ari since 2015.
4/10. The school may be Shiz, but the movie is definitely not.
NEW YORK, N.Y. (Keri News) - Actor-turned-politician Curious George has been shot and killed by two armed men who allegedly broke into George's New York City mansion on the morning of Sept. 26, 2024.
George had been sitting in his living room eating bananas when a bullet from an armed gunman entered his stomach through the side of his abdomen. George attempted to call 911, but was unable to speak due to being a monkey. First responders arrived at the home to find George unconscious in a puddle of blood. George was then flown to Mayo Clinic in Rochester, M.N., where he was declared dead at 1:28 P.M. Three other non-fatal bullet wounds were discovered on George's person by Mayo Clinic doctors. Coroners are unsure if the non-fatal wounds were sustained before or after George was fatally shot in the stomach.
Authorities on the scene are currently investigating the incident, looking for evidence of who might have shot George or why. New York Police Department Deputy Cade Pflughoeft told Keri News, "These intruders thought everything through. They left almost no trace of DNA, and avoided security cameras while they were on the property." NYPD has no leads at the time of publishing.
Those close to George believe the shooting was political in nature. "Well, a lot of people accused George of stealing votes from [President Donald] Trump in 2020, and they didn't want it to happen again," said Ted, George's primary caretaker; "It's just sad to see my country vote with bullets instead of ballots."
Curious George's campaign manager Clovis encourages George's supporters not to be afraid. "While we mourn the loss of our friend Curious George, his ideas live on through our community of supporters. At this juncture, we can only pray that this nation would heal from this awful tragedy." Clovis went on to encourage George's supporters not to despair. "Let us not be blackpilled. It's not what George would have wanted."
A funeral for Curious George will be held on Oct. 9, at 10:00 A.M. in the Graebner Memorial Chapel of George's alma mater, Concordia St. Paul in St. Paul, M.N.
A review of When Harry Met Sally (1989) dir. Rob Reiner.
When I watch rom-com movies, I often see myself in the main character. See my review of High Fidelity (2000) dir. John Cusack for a prime example. But when my buddy Gabe showed me his favorite rom-com, I didn't see myself in Billy Crystal. However, I did see my ex-girlfriend very clearly behind the character of Sally. She's naive and fun, with a veil of professionalism over a frame that is anything but. Seeing her sad made me sad. What does this mean for my feelings toward Sally? The movie's theme focuses on the idea that men and women can never, in a vacuum, truly be just friends; with that in mind, I don't think relating the movie to my personal experience is a wise idea anymore.
The movie is pretty entertaining, but nothing blew me away. The scene where Harry explains his divorce to his friend at the stadium ruined the pacing and didn't impact the story much. Expo dump. Sad that Sally's ex got engaged. There's a dialogue section that reminds me of Kid Cudi's song "The Guide," which is a fantastic song. If you know the song and the movie, you'll know what I mean. Also a pretty gross scene in this one restaurant. This movie is not for kids.
Recently I've been seeing a psychiatrist about issues I've been struggling with for many years. It was scary to make that step, but it needed to happen. I've destroyed many relationships - platonic, romantic, professional - all because of problems I've been suffering from since high school. At the advice of my best friend Rylee, who has supported me since the early days, I decided to look into a professional diagnosis.
Ahh, election season once again. Time to get controversial.
So um, here's the thing. I hate Trump. He embarrasses me every day. He makes us look like backwards idiots. And frankly the fact that he got elected means that we probably are all backwards idiots. Um, he's ruining people's lives, he's making horrible racist decisions which are probably going to have long-lasting repercussions long after he's out of office. Overall I would be a much happier person if we found a way to deport him from every position of power that he has ever had.
But I'm not voting for abortionists, and claiming that abortion protects women is a very shallow way to look at it, to say the least. Republicans may have chosen literally the least likable candidate they could find, all for the lulz, but the Democrats are wicked. And as it turns out, that's not even the worst part.
Gov. Walz is bad at Crazy Taxi.
I'm a Minnesotan through and through. I may live in Nebraska, but I spent the first 20 years of my life in Minnesota. I love the Minnesota Vikings. I love lefse. I love going to the lake. I love saying "Doncha kno." However, I am not a fan of Gov. Walz.
Stupid flag council should have picked this one from DeviantArt Tieger131
I respect him for being one of the few politicians who acknowledges that teachers exist, and thinks they are valuable to society. I want him out for his abortion policies. (Do you think I'm a single-issue voter yet?) But this is the final straw.
He probably did own a Sega Dreamcast back in the day, 25 years ago. He probably did play Crazy Taxi. But his skills do not show it. He overshoots the first stop by a long way, and I don't think he knows about the brake. I doubt he has any memory of the Crazy Box, if he played through it. Because he could have done a crazy stop to stop in a second. It's okay. The Crazy Taxi passengers don't believe in whiplash. In fact, they pay you better.
Walz drives really slow. I think he might not be pressing the analog trigger down far enough? I'm not sure what port he is playing, so I don't know what controller he's on. (I know it's not the Dreamcast port, because the soundtrack is different. Probably Xbox 360 or Steam.) If he had played Crazy Box mode, he might have learned about the crazy boost. It would have really helped him out.
His weaving skills are weak. The name of the game when it comes to driving in oncoming traffic is to make very slight adjustments on the analog stick so you can get through with as little movement as possible. Massive adjustments in velocity just make you a bigger target. But he doesn't make slight adjustments. I'm starting to wonder if he's playing on keyboard and mouse.
And finally, he loses a passenger really early into the game. Losing a passenger is not super uncommon, because the downtown area, with the multitude of intersections and similar-looking buildings, can screw you over. But this is only 2 minutes or so past the start of the game. It's because of the reasons above. He doesn't know how to brake, or at least not effectively. He drives slow for some reason. His weaving skills are unrefined at best. He's not good at the game.
What controller is he holding?
It's funny. AOC said something along the lines of, "Nobody watching can say you haven't played a Dreamcast." I think Gov. Walz probably did play Crazy Taxi on Dreamcast, but I would not argue if you don't believe him. His skills are weak. You might as well pretend that it's your first time if you're gonna be that bad on stream.
Is this the type of man we want in our federal government? I say nay. If you vote for Harris-Walz, I won't automatically be upset with you. I don't think that way. But if you vote for them because of Walz' Crazy Taxi skills, you're off your rocker.
I miss Jesse Ventura. We should re-elect him as governor. What a time that would be.
A review of Piece by Piece (2024), dir. Morgan Neville.
They did downplay Chad's impact, but not as much as I was anticipating. They
definitely downplayed Pharrell's relationship with Timbaland. He's like,
"Yeah we went to the same school," when they're cousins.
Timeline was a little confusing, like, they pretend that "Drop It Like
It's Hot" is the first Pharrell / Snoop collab, but they acknowledge "Beautiful"
later in the movie. And they talk about "Blurred Lines" (from 2013) (🤮) before Clipse's Till The Casket Drops (2009).
2019 was an oasis in the desert. Call it a renaissance. The charts had been mostly depressing for three years; 2019 came out swinging with a bright, optimistic mood that even the most cynical oldhead couldn't help but appreciate. The songs getting played on the radio were the best they had been in years, with new acts Lil Nas X and Billie Eilish topping the charts and influencing the charts to this day. "Old Town Road" and "Bad Guy" were a nice complement to the more dark tracks that had stuck around, and old acts had brightened up too. Typical sludge loser Post Malone decided to sound happy for the first time with "Sunflower" and "Circles," both massive hits. Panic! At The Disco likewise returned to the top 10 with "High Hopes" and "Hey Look Ma, I Made It." These songs may not be good, but they reflect a great optimism that seems strange and almost naive knowing what was to come the following year. None of these names will be appearing on this Top 10 list; I hate happiness. Even so, I think the overall sound of this year can be categorized in a distinct binary between happiness and despair. These two themes will be recurring in my retrospective of 2019.
I watched this movie with the bros because I thought it was going to be a funny haha movie about music nerds. Boy, was I wrong.
This movie is, in my mind, a contrast to Mud. Mud teaches that sometimes you can do everything right, and love still falls apart. High Fidelity teaches that sometimes you can do everything wrong and still end up with someone who loves you.
This movie means a lot to me for 2 reasons. First, Rob Gordon is a despicable person. He's self-centered and dumb. He is drawn to people solely by desires of the flesh. He treats people like garbage. Second, Rob Gordon is like me. He's self-centered and dumb. He is drawn to people solely by desires of the flesh. He treats people like garbage. And he lives on his wider-than-average knowledge of music history.
It makes me happy to see Laura come back. The bros and I were conflicted over it though; did Rob truly grow? After all he had done, is there ever a good reason for Laura to go back to him? Did he take advantage of her dire emotional situation? Do I deserve happiness after the way I've treated people in my past?
I think that, whether or not he deserves it is besides the point. He has her and he is working to be better. That's the real point. Laura may be naive, but she is the best person in the movie. Forgiveness is a beautiful thing.
Sure, the list might be a bit late. But I'm glad I waited. Some of these I didn't recognize until recently. I certainly wanted to make sure I knew what I was talking about. It wasn't due to being lazy.
